re:connections
re:connections was a series of guided walks led by artists Claire Hickey and Emily Warner with residents in Lee Bank/Park Central, a regenerated housing area in Birmingham city centre.
Hickey and Warner provided creative materials such as clays, fabrics and inks to accompany the walks, and used playful techniques to help participants explore their everyday place in new ways. The walks prompted sensory responses and invited residents to consider the impacts the experience had on their perceptions of Lee Bank.
The project was in partnership with Creative Health CIC, and funded by Birmingham City Council
Assembling Dialogues
Assembling Dialogues were immersive and multisensory and interactive installations as part of re:connections. The events were co-curated with Claire Hickey and Emily Warner and followed the re:connections walks led by Hickey and Warner. The installation layered and assembled material gathered as part of the walks (images, tactile objects, taste, smells and sounds) alongside planning documents, press articles and historical maps. To bring together the real and imagined to create thirdspace.
In addition to materials gathered or made during the walks, Kaye Winwood created food experiences; Jieling Xiao created scents; Remi Andrews and Will Taylor created a sound piece responding to Lee Bank and to conversations we recorded.
Three events took place: two events with participants of the walks and other residents, and one event with outsiders - Birmingham City Council planners, housing professionals, artists and public health professionals.

A walk with local people was led by Ellie Barrett, who introduced sellotape as a way to explore and interact with the environment. A collaborative video was created by participants, guided and edited by Jamie Jenkinson.
Funded through Collective Imagination Practice Fund, Joseph Rowntree Foundation
